Nanning, China Day 6 - Nanning Airport, Hotel Review
Its our last day in China
Going back to Malaysia today
We all woke up quite late
I even missed out the hotel breakfast
Taking evening flight back home
If you ask me
Why did I choose to drop by at Nanning and went to Guilin next
Why not go straight to Guilin?
Honestly
I didnt plan this as that time the fare for direct flight to Guilin was way more expensive as compared to Nanning
Which was why I decided to drop by at Nanning for a night then only took the high speed train to Guilin the next day (Using this way, the return flight ticket + return high speed train ticket were still much more cheaper as compared to going to Guilin directly. Need to save my purse haha!)
The good thing was that we managed to see Nanning and experienced the high speed train as well as the view along with it
The bad thing was that we had to waste quite some time on the transportation
Which resulted in a slightly packed trip and exhaustion
As for the hotel
We booked ECheng Hotel Nanning Cultural Palace Branch which was very near to the Nanning Zhongshan Road Night Market for 2 nights (The first and the last night in China)
We booked via Booking.com
The rooms were spacious and very comfortable
The location was good
However
Front desk staff could not speak or understand English at all
They were reluctant to book any taxi for us
They were the ones who asked us to walk from the hotel to the train station with our luggage
They were unprofessional
Why?
There was a small episode during our last stay when we just came back from Guilin
According to our plan we would stay at the Cultural Palace Branch Hotel during our last night in Nanning
Our booking was to pay when we arrived at the hotel (Which means I did not have to make any payment prior to my booking)
We even confirmed with the staff regarding our booking on the last night before we departed to Guilin
When we arrived at the Cultural Palace Branch Hotel on the last night
They actually told us that all our rooms (we booked 3 rooms) were sold out and occupied
As they said that we did not pay and they thought that we were not coming as it was late
The funniest thing was that we actually put some of our luggage in the Cultural Palace Branch Hotel locker before we went to Guilin thinking that we would come back on the last night to collect them
So the front desk staff offered us 2 rooms but 1 person had to sleep on the couch in each room
They thought that they were being very kind to us without feeling apologetic at all
We all needed a good rest so badly after the exhausting trip in Guilin and we were flying back to Malaysia the next day
So they offered us another solution
Cultural Palace Branch Hotel staff asked us to go to another branch which was located only "7 minutes" away
And booked 2 taxis for all of us to go there
So 1 taxi came first and 3 of us went (I was in the first taxi)
But it was actually around triple the time that they mentioned (We felt really cheated, even the taxi driver felt bad for us and asked as to report them)
Worst thing was that when we arrived at the hotel
Their front desk staff told us that all of the rooms were fully booked
We were very shocked and angry and told them that it was the Cultural Palace Branch staff who asked us to go there and they confirmed that there would be rooms available for us there
The staff also felt very surprised as the Cultural Palace Branch Hotel did not give them any call asking for the availability of room before we (the guests) came to the hotel
We were all literally fuming inside
The manager tried to calm us down by giving us some tea and milk
He said that the most he could do was only to offer us 2 rooms (which means only 4 get to stay)
But we had 6 (which means 2 had to find somewhere else, it was very late at night)
We all did not know what to do at that moment
So finally my uncle and aunt made the decision to go back to the Cultural Palace Branch Hotel and see what they could do for them
The hotel booked a taxi for them to go back
When they went back
The manager of the Cultural Palace Branch Hotel was informed on whatever that happened and gave my uncle and aunt an upgrade of their room to VIP suite and apologized for the mistake on behalf of the staff
On our side, we managed to get some discounts on our 2 rooms
So it all went well at the end~
