Chiang Mai, Thailand- Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Nimman Road, Ristr8to, Maya Mall, Kad Na Mor

Morning!
Greeted by these snacks
Its cheat day ^^

Our hotel actually prepared breakfast for us
There were a few selections for us to choose from
Very thoughtful! (though I was not used to their ham and sausages)
So I actually had a bit of big breakfast as well as toasts with butter spread on top

After filling our tummy with lots of food
We hired a songthaew from our hotel to Doi Suthep and from Doi Suthep to Nimman Road
It cost us a total of 700baht after much bargain
Not sure if its cheap

Since we hired the songthaew
The driver would wait for us at the bottom of Doi Suthep
What surprised me was that the driver actually trust us that much and we only had to pay him the fare when we arrived at our final destination-Nimman Road

Doi Suthep is one of northern Thailand's most sacred temples
It overlooks the city from its mountain throne
It is a beautiful example of northern Thai architecture
The admission fee was 30 baht per person
Climbing up the 306-step staircase

If you don't have the energy
You can go for a funicular-style lift for an additional 20 baht
However
You will miss out the beautiful scenery along the climb

It was too hazy that day.  On a bright sunny day, you should be able to observe the whole city.

Saw the gleaming golden chedi enshrining the relic
The crowning five-tiered umbrella marks the city's independence from Burma and its union with Thailand
You will see pilgrims queuing to leave lotus flowers at the shrines surrounding the chedi
Which are studded with Buddha statues in an amazing variety of poses and materials

The golden chedi beaming under the sunlight

You can give some donations at the end of your visit

I love the door so much!

Reaching Nimmanhaemin Road

We bought the fried chicken from this stall as it was surrounded by many locals
We thought it must be good!
And it turned out to be finger-licking gooood~
And cheap!!!
Highly recommended if you come across this stall at Nimman Road

Nimman Road is located on the west side of the city in Suthep district near the foot of the mountain
It is packed with hipster coffee shops, wine bars, art and craft shops, trendy clothes stores etc
Sois 1 and 3 have plenty of handicraft stores and fashionable boutiques
Odd-numbered Sois 3 to 11 have plenty of restaurants and bars

You see elephant statues everywhere

Had our lunch here

Again
We saw a long queue of people waiting in front of this restaurant
So we just went to queue along as we were hungry after all the walking and hiking
Tom Yum Kung. Thumbs up for this!

Mango sticky rice.

As for the mango sticky rice
The mango was very sweet (different from those you have in Malaysia as many turn out to be sour)
Drizzle some coconut milk on top of the mango and sticky rice
Its heaven~~~
Fried water spinach

I was quite disappointed with the fried water spinach (kangkong in Malaysia)
They gave us all the stems and very little leaves
It was not worth the price
Overall
Coming to this restaurant was the right choice
Just don't try the water spinach
Went to this very famous cafe after our heavy lunch

This cafe won the sixth place in the 2011 World Latte Art Championship
The prices ranged from 65-120 baht
Add: Ristr8to Coffee Chiang Mai, 15/3 Nimmanhemin Road, Suthep, Muang, Chiang Mai
Opening Hours: 8am-11pm

I see an angel

Overall
The latte was pretty good though I would prefer it to be slightly bitter
But the latte art was amazing
It required a lot of skill to make it
Must visit if you are a coffee lover!
After that
We decided to go to Maya Lifestyle Shopping Centre
Which was within walking distance

This is so cute!

You are near Maya Mall when you see this sign

A cat statue carrying Chanel bag

Maya Mall is a very high-class mall
It is a perfect place to escape from the scorching heat or heavy shower outside
Personally
I think it can even compete with Pavillion Kuala Lumpur (solely my own opinion)
There is a supermarket for grocery shopping at the ground floor
Remember to check out the rooftop observation skydeck to get some panoramic view of Nimman and Doi Suthep
There is a newly opened outlet called Naraya
Which is a very famous local brand selling items ranging from bags, purses etc at a very reasonable price but good quality
We went back on the last day of our visit in Chiang Mai to shop for their bags
Also
There is a 24 hour cafe primarily for students from the nearby university called C.A.M.P (Creative and meeting place)
I missed that out due to the time limit

A vending machine selling limited t-shirts

Bought this pretty cap for myself! Love it!

There's a mini art gallery on the top floor

Let me show you some pictures taken at the observation skydeck
It's totally worth a visit if you have some free time to spare

A very fancy bar

Having done some shopping
We took a songthaew to Kad Na Mor (Chiang Mai University night market)
It was just opposite the Chiang Mai University
Just tell the driver you are going to CMU night market as most driver did not know Kad Na Mor
It opened from 6pm-10pm

Sorry for the blurry pic. It was raining heavily when we arrived.

This place is very popular among the locals
So you can get things at a surprisingly cheap price
There are many fashion stalls
Everything they sell is so trendy compared to other places we went in Chiang Mai
We bought most of our clothes and bags here
Remember to check out a stall selling handmade bags called Klang Sang
Their products are really nice!
One tip for shopping at any night market
You must have thick skin to bargain hard
You will get used to it after few tries

Itis also very food-focused as there is an area under the cover of metal roofs dedicated to mostly Thai and Japanese food
We had our dinner here for two consecutive days

Fried omelette for 10 baht

Fried water spinach

Sweet & sour chicken

For a meal with 3 dishes and rice
It only costs us about RM3-5 per person (after conversion)
Including free plain water and soups
The food at the food court was cheap but very tasty
We went back the next day to try out the other food stalls
Khao Soi

Malaysian called this apam balik. But with coconut flakes instead of peanuts.

Fried chicken. A bit tasteless.

Ice-cream roll

To be honest
This is our favorite place in Chiang Mai
I will definitely go back if I get a chance!
Okay I shall stop here
To be continued~
