Chiang Mai, Thailand-Sunday Night Market
Flying off to Chiang Mai, Thailand on 21st of August
It was during the rainy season (May-Nov)
We departed from KLIA2 at 2.45pm and arrived at Chiang Mai International Airport at 4.25pm
Since it was a Sunday
We were lucky to be on time for the very famous Sunday Night Market
Sunday Night Market starts from Tha Pae Gate and runs 1km along Th Ratchadamnoen Road to Wat Phra Singh
It starts from 4pm-11pm
You will see musicians sitting in the middle of the road to play musical instruments or sing
Artists sketching on the road
National anthem will be played at 6 o'clock
There are many stalls selling food, locally hand-crafted goods, handmade soaps, clothes etc
You can also get a Thai massage there
We stayed at Tawan Court Hotel
Which we found from Agoda website for a very good bargain
From Chiang Mai International Airport
We hopped onto one shuttle van for 40 baht per person (bought ticket from the booth outside the airport)
And arrived at our hotel after about 30 minutes drive (the van was full of people and we were almost the last to arrive at our destination)
One funny thing about the hotel was that we were only required to pay on the last day of our stay
We took the songthaew (red truck) to the Sunday Night Market
Minimum fare for songthaew is 20baht per person (I think so)
Don't worry if you are not a local
The driver will remind you when you arrive at your destination
You only need to pay when you arrive
So let's talk about the food we tasted at Sunday Night Market
We tried Pad Thai
You can have it with or without fried chicken
Mine was without
We had dumplings and sausages wrapped with enoki mushrooms
Both were so so so good!
Mushrooms salad
It was cooked with ajinomoto
A bit too salty for us
Mixed berry juice
It was so refreshing under the hot weather (maybe because it was too crowded with people)
But you have to chew the seeds when reaching the bottom of the drink
The plate of food behind the drink was banana pancake
We ordered the original one
With chocolate syrup drizzled on top
Yummms~
A closer look |
All these foods were available inside any temples along Ratchadamnoen Road
We only managed to enter one temple for food tasting due to the time limit
Honestly
Sunday Night Market sells goods with the best selection, quality and price among other markets that we went in Chiang Mai
Be sure to arrive early if you are planning to shop!
To be continued~
