Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Day 5 - Highlands Coffee, Independence Palace, Mon Hue Restaurant
We started our day with breakfast in hotel
It was in buffet style
Western + Vietnamese cuisine
So not to worry if you are not used to the Vietnamese food
After our breakfast
We went for coffee and cakes at Highlands Coffee as it was still early
Our plan was to go to the Independence Palace in the afternoon
I think Highlands Coffee is like the high-end coffee place at Ho Chi Minh as the price was only slightly cheaper than the Starbucks in Malaysia
But the coffee was so so so goooood!
They came in a set. |
Happily enjoying! |
Very nice environment |
Adults talking |
Sis playing phone |
Me enjoying the view |
Finally! Independence Palace |
Independence Palace is also known as the Reunification Palace
It was the base of the Vietnamese General Ngo Dinh Diem until his death in 1963
It made its name in global history when a tank belonging to the North Vietnamese Army crashed through its main gate, thereby ending the Vietnam War
One thing about this place was that there was no AC
So it was quite humid
For the interior of the palace
I will let the pictures do the talking
Command bunker |
There was a small garden |
The bedroom |
The closet |
Games room |
Theatre |
Behind the scene |
Study room |
Gifts from the ambassador |
Private helicopter |
The two red circles drawn showed where the bombs were dropped |
After that
We went to the Mon Hue Restaurant for our lunch before we headed home
This was very tasty! |
Pho must be there! |
Waiting to go back to Malaysia |
Bye Vietnam. We will be back! |
Ho Chi Minh is a pretty good place for shopping, eating and learning about its history
Budget wise
It is pretty cheap when it comes to food
The weather can be quite hot and humid
There are motorbikes everywhere in both direction
So you have to be extra careful when you are walking on the streets
One more thing
As their money is very big
With many many zeros behind
Be extra careful when you are paying (beware of scams)
Some would try to cheat you knowing you are tourist
We encountered a few incidents
Nevertheless
I still love the place and people
Will definitely be back
